14 through 16 in just a moment. If you want to find that. While you're finding that, let's review here quickly. Revelation four eleven, thou art worthy, oh Lord, to receive glory and honor and power. For thou hast created all things and for thy pleasure, they are and were created.

So, why did God create you? He created you for his what? Pleasure. Pleasure. He did it simply because it suited his pleasure.

It was his desire and so he did it. He did it because it brought him pleasure to create you and make you. He did it because in order that you might give him pleasure by doing his will in those things which he made you to do. Which is where human will comes into the picture. We must choose.

Choose. Whether to do those things. That are in accordance with his will. That bring him pleasure. They glorify him or not.

He made you to bring him pleasure by choosing him as your Lord by what? By faith. And trusting him more each day exhibited in our obedience. Trust and obey. You give him pleasure by putting your faith and trust in him.

You also bring him pleasure by choosing to love and serve him. First of all, in your lives. Love the Lord your God with all your what? Heart. With all your heart.

That's the first and the greatest commandment. God is glorified and it brings him pleasure when we choose to put him first in our lives and when we choose to love our neighbor also as our self and then number three, by choosing to be holy and live a holy life like unto our savior. Set apart to our holy God and separated from worldliness and sin. Last Sunday morning, we took time to look at our holy God. What the word holy means?

Means to be set apart, cleansed, and that our God is holy and that he expects us, his children, to be like who? Like who? To be like him and to be set apart as well. Set apart from the world unto himself. Set apart in our actions and in all of our behavior.

Look, if you would in first Peter one verse 14, as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to former lust in your ignorance that was before you knew Christ but as he which hath called you is holy, so be you holy in all manner of conversation because it is written be holy for I am holy. Let's go to the Lord in prayer once more. Thank you Lord for this day. Thank you Lord for Jesus Christ our savior. Thank you that we who know you by faith are called the children of God and have an inheritance in your kingdom one day with you.

Thank you Lord for all the blessings that come to us in this life, in this day because you will never leave us nor forsake us. Lord, help us as your children to desire to trust you, to love you, and to live a life pleasing unto you. Holy, set apart from worldliness unto the righteousness of Jesus Christ. In Jesus name, we do pray. Amen.

All manner of conversation, be holy in all manner of conversation. That means in every aspect of life. The word conversation is translated from a Greek word that means lifestyle or manner or custom or way of life. It's not speaking, it's not only about what you say, it's also about what you do, it's about how you think, it's about the attitudes of your heart, and every aspect of life, Peter writes, be you holy, be more like who? More more like your God and less like the world.

When I went to Bob Jones University, I found an abundance of these things called rules. Rules concerning every facet of life on campus. The administration had expectations of their students which were a little bit different in some respects than my expectations. They had guidelines for dress. They had guidelines for appearance.

I like to have a mustache. Couldn't have couldn't have this when I was at Bob Jones. Now, my son can now but he doesn't want to but I did and I couldn't. Anyway, going on. They had guidelines for going to bed, when to go to bed, and when to get up.

They had guidelines for neatness of the room. We had room check every morning. They had guidelines for entertainment. Things you could and couldn't watch, couldn't listen to. They had guidelines for speech and decorum.

They had guidelines concerning cooking in the rooms. You're only supposed to have certain cooking vessels in the utensils in the room. I guess they didn't want you to burn the dorm down, you know. They had guidelines for putting up decorations, which my roommate ignored, and nobody seemed to care. They had guidelines for leaving campus.

You couldn't just say, Oh, I'm going go off campus and drive off. You had to either go sign out or sometimes you had to see somebody and get permission. They had guidelines for dating, quite strict guidelines for dating. And on and on and on and on. And those were the rules.

And they may seem have seemed a bit strict or overbearing but since I had chosen to go there as a student, it only made sense for me to follow the what? To follow the rules, the guidelines of the authority that I had placed myself under. Only common sense. Though common sense wasn't my strong suit at the time. As children of God, a holy God, does God have guidelines for us?

Oh, yes. Commands and expectations? Yes. Of his children? He does and he is the ultimate authority.

When we become, when we became the children of God, we submitted ourselves to the authority of Christ as our Lord and God is our father and he has he has in his word set forth many guidelines which he not only expects us to follow but empowers us by his spirit. To follow. Guidelines which reflect his what? His holy character. We stop here for just one second.

You're not saved by keeping those guidelines. We're saved by what? By grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to his mercy, he saved us. We're not saved by keeping those guidelines but we should feel compelled to keep those guidelines because we are saved, because we are his children.

We should feel compelled. To keep the expectations of our father. And we are indeed his children. His holy people. His peculiar treasure on this earth.

Set apart in Christ and sanctified, made holy unto himself from the world and sin. Second Corinthians five seventeen, therefore, if any man be in Christ, that is saved, born again. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. All things are passed away. Behold, all things are become new.

That phrase in Christ is used in some form 77 times in the New Testament to describe Christians. We have been set apart in who? In Christ. His robes for mine. His righteousness in exchange for my sin.

We have been robed in the righteousness of Christ. Therefore, we have standing before God in heaven. We have a place that he's reserved for us but we also have responsibilities as the children of God to do those things which bring our father pleasure. It is our privilege as new creations in Christ Jesus. First Peter two nine, it says, but you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, that you should show forth the praises of him who have called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

What a privilege is ours. To be chosen in Christ, to be priest in his service, to be holy, a holy people, a peculiar, unique, privileged people in Christ. That we should live in such a way to show forth, to reveal, our God, his nature, his love, his holiness, his light to the world around us. Turn if you would to first Corinthians chapter six. First Corinthians chapter, hold your place in Peter.

We might be back there but look if you would in first Corinthians chapter six and we'll read verses nine through 11. First Corinthians six nine through 11. The Bible uses the word saint. You ever heard the word saint? Yes.

Saint Thomas, Saint Matthew, Saint Peter, Saint John, those people are saints and indeed, they are saints but guess what? So are you. You may not have been declared a saint by a group of people on this Earth but you have been declared a saint by Jesus Christ and God. We are saints. What's that word saint mean?

That saint means holy. It means set apart. We have been set apart unto whom? To God. We belong to him.

We are his saints. We represent him in this Earth. Therefore, we're all saints in Christ Jesus. First Corinthians six nine to 11 puts it this way, you know, know you, know you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Be not deceived neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor effeminate nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

That's a message the world doesn't want to hear today, does it? They don't want to hear and and most everybody at some point in their life could have found their name in one of these categories. If not, these in a category on another list in the Bible. Deserving of God's punishment because we are sinners. The wages of sin is death.

But the passage doesn't end there. Praise God. There's verse 11 and such were some of you but you are washed but you are sanctified but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the spirit of our God. This is who you were in your ignorance before you came to Jesus. This is how you lived, you acted.

It is what defined you. It's who you were but when you came to Christ and you were saved by the grace of God, born again by the holy spirit, you were changed. You became his child. You were justified by his grace. You were set apart unto God.

Who will conform you more and more to the image of his son so that one day when we stand before him, we will be like him. We were defined by these things before. We are defined by them no longer nor should they be part of our life. We are to be what? We are to be holy.

This is who we are in Christ Jesus. You belong to him. You are his children. You represent him and his interest in this world. You bear his name.

Amen. Christian. You bear his name. Therefore, God cries out to his New Testament church as he did to his Old Testament Israel to be holy as he is holy. In every aspect of our life, in every activity of our life, we need to reflect the holiness of our God.

We need to learn how to be set apart from the sinful lifestyle and behavior of the unsaved world around us and by the way, that's a wonderful thing. Sin only brings ruin, destruction, sorrow, and pain. Don't ever look at the world and think, oh, I'm missing out. No, you're not missing out. They're missing out.

Amen. Because sin only brings sorrow. You have been freed from its slavery and bondage. So that we can enjoy the blessings of Jesus Christ. Amen.

The first thing I want us to see, the first aspect of life in which we should be set apart as Christians is this, we should be set apart. We are set apart in our faith. We are set apart in our faith. Romans one seventeen, for therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith as it is written, the just shall live by faith. How are we to be solved in light?

How are we to be different, set apart, have an influence upon the world for good, bring glory to our father in heaven? By our faith. Corinthians five seven says, for we walk by faith and not by sight. We talked about faith a little earlier in our series but let's spend just a couple minutes on it before we move on today. God is glorified in his character magnified in the lives of his children who approach life differently.

Than the rest of the world. Who approach it by faith. The Christian, thus, is set apart from the world via a worldview that is not solely grounded in science and the material but a worldview that looks beyond this temporal world. Now, science is not all bad. It is a method that people use to observe and make sense out of things.

Everything we enjoy today is somehow connected to pretty much the scientific method. These lights that light up our auditorium so we can see. How did that happen? Well, science. Science is not a bad thing.

Material world, bad thing? No, I don't think so. You like sitting in pews? You like having food to eat? Money is a necessity.

Material things are not all bad. Material things are created by God. They're good. However, they're not all that there is to this world. They're not all that there is to this life.

We walk by faith and not just by sight. That sets us apart from our world today. We enter into eternal life through faith in the son of God and we are to continue day by day through this life looking straight on with eyes of faith. Looking unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith. In no other time in history is this dichotomy more evident than in the world we live in today.

Wherein we are called fools and science deniers. If we dare to suggest that there is a god who is involved in our world and who is involved in our lives. That some things cannot be understood or explained by means of science or natural law. Creation for instance. That God would dare to intervene in the affairs of men by the way of blessing or judgement.

Do you believe God intervenes in the affairs of men? I do. Yes. I do. By faith.

That God or the afterlife exist at all. A growing number. I I don't recall the stats but every now and then, I hear the stats about how many of the coming up generation are atheist or agnostics and the number is growing and it is growing rapidly in our country and in our world. Very sad to say. We are mocked because we believe prayer works and God still does miracles among us today.

We are mocked because we believe he will return and make things right one day as he promised. The world's greatest enemy is not global warming. It is sin and the judgment that will result because of it. That there is a reward and blessing to be found in knowing, loving, and serving Jesus who did rise again and who does save men's souls from sin. How do we come to believe those things?

By faith. We are set apart by our belief and faith in those things that the world is going further and further away from. Even the very concept of sin itself is foreign to the post modern mind since it points to a higher authority and an absolute truth. But as children of God, our lives should reek of faith. To the world, it will, they would use the word reek.

But it should be pungent for people who are around us That they might see our good works and glorify our father which is in heaven. Our lives should reek of faith in our daily activities, prayer life, conversations with others. The decisions that we make in school, in church, at home, and with our friends. Should be filled with faith. We are different and we are holy because we are people of faith.

Number two, another way in which we need to be holy, another aspect of our life is in our affections and our lusts. In our infections and our lust. The word lust is another word for desire. In your affections and your desires, okay? We usually call them lust when we're referring to negative desires, sinful desires.

Galatians five verse 24 and they that are in Christ have crucified the flesh with the affect ions and lust. Turn if you would to first John chapter two. First John chapter two and we'll look at verses 15 through 17. First John two fifteen through 17. First John two fifteen through 17.

John wrote this letter to a group of professing Christians to assure them of their relationship with God. And in chapter two, he we come across this passage verse 15 through 17. Yeah. And there we read, love not the world. Neither the things that are in the world.

If any man love the world, the love of the father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the father, but is of the world. And the world passed away in the lust thereof, but he that doeth the will of the God, abideth what? Forever. One of the things that should set us apart that brings God pleasure.

Is it our affections and lust should be different? From the world. Our our love, affections, and desires should be distinctly different from the world around us. Our lives, our decisions are driven by the things we love. By the things we love.

That's why it starts out here, love not the what? The world. You who profess faith in Christ, it is a contradiction for you to say, I love God and not be willing to let go of the affections and lust of this world. You can't be loving both at the same time. You can't be serving God and what?

Mammon. We should not be driven by love of the world and by the lust of the flesh but set apart from the lost by our love for God and the things of God. That the love of God should be what defines us. Amen. And it should change our desires and if you know God, it has changed your desires but it should change him even more.

The world, our secular culture in America is consumed with the lust of the flesh. Would you say that's a true statement? Exhibited in our TV shows, movies, and popular music. Things which are abhorrent to God. Violence, hate, greed, vengeance, deceit, cheating, stealing, and all sorts of sexual perversion.

Not only are these glorified in our entertainment but actually are glorified in the lives of those who portray those things on the stage and on the screen. The heroes of our young people are nobody to be looked up to. Because they glorify the wrong things. But that is to be expected because they are of the what? The world.

They love the world. But we who are Christians, who have been set apart unto Christ, who claim his name, who represent him on this Earth, who have been indwelled by the Holy Spirit. We have no excuse. Our lives, our desires, our affections should be different. Nothing's really changed in the world in that respect.

It's just more apparent in the world of instant access of today. In Paul's day, the pagan cities he visited most every Gentile city also glorified this kind of lifestyle and surrendered to the lust of flesh and the trappings of the world. Ephesus had a temple which boasted a thousand temple prostitutes. Isn't the world's solution to forbidden things convenient? Just make them part of your religion and then you don't have to feel what?

Guilty anymore. That there's only one true religion. There's only one true way to God. Jesus said, I am the way, the life, no man comes to father but by me. Man is all the time trying to make up his own way that makes allowances for his what?

His lusts and his affections. But God has a better way, a better way through his son, through his word, through his spirit. Our way is the better way. It is the best way. It is the true way.

It is God's way and we as God's children have been set apart, freed from our slavery to the flesh and the world and so God is glorified when our lives reflect his holiness, his affections, his desires. Look, if you would in first Thessalonians four, turn back a few pages, not not too far. First Thessalonians chapter four, Go back past Hebrews and you'll find first Thessalonians. First Thessalonians four three through seven. First Thessalonians four and verse three, for this is the will of God.

Even your sanctification that you should abstain from fornication. That is immorality. That everyone of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor. Not in the lust of concupiscence or passionate lust, immoral lust, even as the Gentiles which know not who? God.

That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter because that the Lord is the avenger of all such as we also have forewarned you and testified. For God had not called us on the uncleanness but unto what? To holiness. God has called us children unto holiness. Our lives should reflect the holiness of our God.

That's what God has called us to. That's what God expects of us. Now, he understands our frame. He knows that we still live in this flesh. He knows the struggle that we have and praise God.

He is a god of mercy and long suffering but he still expects us to become becoming more like Jesus Christ and less like the what? And less like the world. When our lives demonstrate this, it brings him glory and pleasure. When our lives demonstrate the opposite, it dishonors the God who made us and the God who saved us. Are we should be different.

We should be different in our faith, in our affections, and lust, and then this morning, in our dealings with others, in our dealings with others and I'm just going to introduce this and then I'll pick back up next Sunday morning but I want to introduce it. Look if you would to Romans chapter 12. Romans chapter 12 beginning in verse 10. Romans 12 verse 10. In our dealings with others, we also need to be holy.

We call those righteous dealings. Righteousness has to do not just with our attitude and mindset which it does but also with how we deal with others, okay? Whether our dealings with others are right, righteous. Talks about this in Romans twelve ten. Paul is writing Christians.

He writes to them. He says, beginning in verse 10, be kindly affection one to another with brotherly love. In honor preferring one another, not slothful in business, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord. Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing instant in prayer, distributing to the necessity of saints, given to hospitality, bless them which persecute you, bless and curse not, rejoice with them that do rejoice and weep with them that weep, be of the same mind one toward another, mind not high things but condescend the men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves but rather give place under wrath for it is written, vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore, therefore, thine enemy hunger feed him.

If he thirst, give him drink. For in so doing, thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good. How is God magnified in your life? What brings him pleasure when you deal righteously?

With others. And others will not always make that easy. He doesn't. You you catch from this passage here. He's talking not just about those people that treat you well but those people who do not treat you well.

We need to be like who? Like Christ and like our father in heaven who sends rain on the evil and on the good. Like Christ who died and hung on the cross. And said, father, forgive them for they know not what they do. Like Christ who forgave the thief that hung there on the cross beside him.

Like Christ who healed everyone that was brought to him. Like Christ who spent time trying to get through his thick headed enemies, the Pharisees. That he was there to save them. If they would just see it. Like Christ who spent time with the drunks and the prostitutes.

And the thieves. And the tax collectors. To share with them the good news that there was a way out of that lifestyle and a way out from under that bondage. In him. Our savior was honest and trustworthy, loving, kind.

He was a peacemaker and he was submissive to his authorities. He was in all points righteous. Unlike man's natural estate. There is none righteous, no, not one. That is our natural estate in sin.

But Christians, we are no longer defined by the term in sin. We are defined by the term what? In Christ. And our dealings with people should bring glory to our heavenly father. With those of our family, with those of our church, with those of our country, with those of our community, with those at our work, with those at our school, with those that are friends, and yes, even with those that are our enemies.

They should have reason to glorify our God because he has made us different because we are his and we'll continue with this point next Sunday morning. But in closing this morning, I want to remind you of our savior who in agony in the garden knowing the suffering that he would endure, said, father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me, nevertheless, not my will, but thine be done. He went to the cross and he died there for you and for me, that we might know him and the salvation that he gives to those who put their faith in him. Have you put your faith in him? There's no way to please him apart from what?

Faith. For he that cometh to God must believe that he is and he is rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Give a hymn of invitation the moment. If you have yet to put your faith in Christ, you can do that today and he will change your life. He will set you apart from sin and hell and he will make you his what?

His child. And he won't leave you alone. No. He will not only be with you but he will be in you. And he will never what?

Leave you nor forsake you. And he will present you one day spotless before his father in heaven. If you haven't made the decision, would you make it today to trust Jesus and child of God, would you hear the plea? Would you hear the plea of Paul? Here in Romans chapter 12.

Verses one and two. I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service and be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God and if there's this area of in your life that God has touched today and said, this area is not holy. It is not surrendered to me. It is not bringing me glory. Then, as we sing and as we pray, would you just bow your head and tell him about it?

He'll hear you. Let's pray. Dear heavenly father, thank you Lord. For your son, for the salvation that is ours in Christ Jesus. Thank you, Lord.

That we are the children of God by faith and by your grace And Lord, thank you that we have been privileged to serve you, to represent you here. Thank you that you are making us. If we will let you more and more into your image every day. Lord, forgive us of our failures. Forgive us of our stubbornness.

Forgive us of our justification for sin in our life. Lord, help us to see the need to be salt and light in this world. To represent you a right. To confess and repent and forsake sin and error. To be conformed to the image of your son today.

And Lord we pray if there's one here that's never trusted Christ as the Lord and Savior of their life. That they would do it today. As we sing. In Jesus name, we pray.
